About Us

Chettinad College of Nursing is a constituent college of Chettinad Academy of Research and Education (Deemed to be University under section 3 of the UGC Act 1956) recognized by the Indian Nursing Council, Delhi and Tamil Nadu Nurses and Midwives Council, Chennai.
Chettinad College of Nursing was established with the mission to prepare nurses with global standards for local and global placements. The Nursing programs offered to implement a curriculum based on the syllabus provided by the Indian Nursing Council to establish uniform standards of Nursing Education. The standardized curriculum provides a broad-based education within the academic framework intended for the development of critical thinking skills, competencies, and standards required for the practice of professional nursing and midwifery as envisaged in National Health Policy. Course Offered:-

B Sc. Nursing

Overview:

B. Sc. Nursing is a four-year undergraduate programme focused on developing critical thinking skills, proficiency and values necessary for the practice of professional nursing and midwifery. The programme is streamlined to enable students to address the health needs of the nation, society and individuals. The programme involves classroom study, Simulation learning in the Nursing Labs, Field trips, Projects, Assignments and Clinical learning that enable students to integrate theory and practice. The students are also required to undergo a six-month internship during the final year of their course which facilitates a smooth transition to being a Professional Nurse.

Course outcome:

On completion of B.Sc Nursing program, the graduates will be able to:

  • Assume responsibilities as professional competent nurses and midwives at a basic level in providing promotive, preventive, curative and rehabilitative services.
  • Apply knowledge from physical, biological and behavioral sciences, medicine and nursing in providing nursing care to individuals, families and communities.
  • Communicate effectively with the members of the health care team and develop good interpersonal skills for teamwork.
  • Engage in professional behaviours by adhering to legal, ethical, and professional standards.
  • Demonstrate leadership and managerial skills in clinical and community health settings.

Eligibility Criteria

i) Age limit:

  • The minimum age for admission shall be 17 years on or before 31st December of the year of admission.

(ii) Qualifying examination:

The minimum educational requirements shall be the passing of:

  • A candidate should have passed in the subjects of Physics, Chemistry, Biology (PCB) and English individually and must have obtained a minimum of 45% marks taken together in PCB at the qualifying examination (10+2) i.e., (10+2) from recognized Board under AISSE/CBSE/ICSE/SSCE/HSCE or other equivalent Board.
  • Candidates are also eligible from State Open School recognized by State Government and National Institute of Open School (NIOS) recognized by Central Government having science subjects and English.
  • For the candidates belonging to SC/ ST or other backward classes, the marks obtained in PCB taken together in qualifying examination shall be 40%.

iii) Medical Fitness:

Every candidate before admission to the course shall submit a certificate of medical fitness from an authorized medical officer that the candidate is physically fit to undergo the academic course. Married candidates can seek admission to the course provided they are medically fit.

(iv) Eligibility Certificate:

  • Candidates, who have passed any qualifying examination other than the Higher Secondary Course examination conducted by the government of Tamil Nadu, shall obtain an Eligibility Certificate, from Chettinad Academy of Research and Education and produce the same at the time of admission and also remit recognition fee as prescribed.

(v) Equivalency for Foreign Nationals who want to study in India:

  • For admission to B.Sc.(N) the entry qualification equivalency i.e., 12th standard should be obtained from the Association of Indian Universities (AIU).
Post Basic B Sc. Nurisng

Overview:

Post Basic B.Sc. Nursing is a two-year undergraduate programme designed to inculcate an in-depth understanding of advanced level nursing. Under this programme, students acquire both surgical and non-surgical nursing skills that prepare them for varied real-world clinical and hospital settings. The programme prepares students to take independent decisions in nursing situations and play a major role in treating patients with care and compassion. The programme transmutes students to industry-trained professionals with a strong understanding of the philosophy objectives and responsibilities of nursing as a profession.

Course outcome:

On completion of Post Basic B.Sc Nursing program, the graduates will be able to:

  • Assess health status, identify nursing needs, plan, implement and evaluate nursing care for patients that contribute to health of individuals, families and communities.
  • Demonstrate competency in techniques of nursing based on concepts and principles from selected areas of nursing, physical, biological and behavioural sciences.
  • Demonstrate leadership qualities and decision making abilities in various situations.
  • Participate as members of health team in the promotive, preventive, curative and restorative health care delivery system of the country.
  • Provide direct and indirect holistic, patient-centred care to individuals, families, groups, communities, and populations across a variety of settings.

  1. Be a registered nurse (Registered Nurse & Registered Midwife ) or equivalent
  2. Candidate should have completed GNM Nursing programme successfully
  3. Married candidates can seek admission to the course provided they are medically fit.
  4. Every candidate before admission to the course shall submit a certificate of medical fitness from an authorized medical officer that the candidate is physically fit to undergo the academic course
  5. Eligibility Certificate: Candidates who have passed any qualifying examination from Boards apart from Govt. of Tamil Nadu shall obtain an Eligibility Certificate, from Chettinad Academy of Research and Education and produce the same at the time of admission and also remit recognition fee as prescribed.
M Sc. Nursing

Overview:

This course is designed to assist students in developing expertise and advance competence in practice nursing. It will enable the students to function as nurse specialists, consultants, educators, administrators in a wide variety of professional settings. This programme prepares nursing graduates who are professionally equipped to deal with day-to-day problems within the existing constraints and thus act as an agent of social change. For this programme, the course delivery method involves seminars, lectures, extensive lab and practical work and on-field training.

  • Demonstrate the ability to plan and effect change in nursing practices and in the health care delivery system.
  • Establish collaborative relationship with members of other disciplines.

Eligibility Criteria

  • The candidate should be a Registered Nurse and Registered midwife of equivalence with any State Nursing Registration Council.
  • The minimum education requirements shall be the passing of B.Sc. Nursing / B.Sc.Hons. Nursing/ Post Basic B.Sc. Nursing with not less than of 55% aggregate marks from an institution that is recognized by the Indian Nursing Council.
  • 5% relaxation of marks for SC/ ST candidates.
  • Minimum one year of Work experience after Basic B.Sc. Nursing.
  • Minimum one year of Work experience prior or after Post Basic B.Sc Nursing.
  • The candidate shall be medically fit.
