In fact, many such intrinsic values and functions of these tiny assemblages are still obstinately beyond the comprehension of modern allopathy even now in the 21st century, in spite of the incredible advancements in medical science and technology. For the Siddha and Ayurvedha systems, however, the Sages have so magnanimously bequeathed to posterity perfect documentation on palm leaves, delineating fantastic insights into the cause, diagnosis and the holistic treatment of all possible human ailments. In these systems, the discernment, diagnosis and the treatment of a certain illness in the body take into consideration the human being in totality, keeping also in view his subtle biological relationship with the environment and nature as a whole…..
However, it is most unfortunate that such a fabulous treasure of indigenous medical knowledge has remained obscure, completely overshadowed by people’s ignorance on the one hand, and the incursion of western medicine, on the other. Partly responsible for this blackout also were the few physicians who practised indigenous medicine here and there were unwilling to disseminate the art; they wanted to jealously guard it for themselves, with the result the knowledge and practice drifted into obscurity along with their own names. It is only in the last century that some eminent souls, stimulated by a perception of the superb nature of traditional Indian medicine, rose to the occasion and appealed to the government of India not only for recognition but also to institute medical colleges of indigenous medicine in the country.
A few institutions were born. But I have a dream. We are on the threshold of a new era of renascence in Indian Medicine. A new wave with fresh vigour is rising; a revival of interests in the immense past is emerging to awaken the system from its long drawn out slumber. Our country will soon realize how great and unrivalled our healthcare culture was thousands of years ago. But this awakening and progress cannot be left to spontaneity. To restore the system to its original glory and to sustain its momentum, we need tens of thousands of enthusiastic young men and women with sincere dedication and commitment to its development. In the hope of being at least a part for the fulfilment of this requirement, the DHARMA MEDICAL RESEARCH AND CHARITABLE TRUST established the Dharma Ayurvedha Medical College in 1997 and the Velumailu Siddha Medical College in 200). These colleges are affiliated to the Tamil Nadu MGR Medical University, approved by the Government of Tamil Nadu and recognized by the Central Council of Indian Medicine (CCIM), New Delhi and by the Department of AYUSH, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India.
It gives me great pleasure to welcome you to join us in this great challenge at the first ever pioneering private Medical College of Indian Medicine at Sri Perumbudhur. Both the Siddha and the Ayurvedha colleges, with their excellent infrastructure, richly laden digital library, state of the art laboratories and a deeply committed faculty will so edify you as to become a noble doctor of great calibre in Indian Medicine. Thiru. Muthuperumal who is holding the post of administrative officer of both Dharma Ayurveda Medical College & Hospital and Velumailu Siddha Medical College & Hospital is an able & efficient administrator. He is the pivotal figure in running the administration of both the colleges. He is a Knowledgeable & Capable person to tackle any situation. He is polite & helps not only the persons working under his day to day administration of the colleges but also the students. He is maintaining a very good & cordial relationship with all the teaching staff. Because of all this qualities he is holding the post of AO of both colleges from the day inception.
INTRODUCTION
In pursuance of the provisions of National Commission for Indian System of Medicine (NCISM) Act 2020 (14 of 2020), the Indian Medicine Central Council (IMCC) Act 1970 (48 of 1970) has been repealed and all the provisions of the National Commission for Indian System of Medicine (NCISM) has been come into force with effect from the 11th day of June 2021. Under the provisions of section 59 (2) of NCISM Act 2020 the Central Government has constituted the Commission and four Autonomous boards on the same day. Medical standards, requirements and other provisions of the IMCC Act 1970 and the rules and regulations made thereunder shall continue to be in force and operate till new standards or requirements as specified under new act or rules and regulations made thereunder come into force. However, the provisions of concerned regulations which are inconsistent with the provisions of NCISM Act 2020 shall not be applicable.
