GENERAL NURSING AND MIDWIFERY

GNM stands for General Nursing and Midwifery. It is a 3½ years long Diploma program. Academic program is 3 years long and 6 months are dedicated towards internship. OBJECTIVES

GNM Nursing programmes is designed to prepare the students to:

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA FOR GNM NURSING

  1. Minimum and Maximum age for admission will be 17 and 35 years. There is no age bar for ANM/LHV
  2. Minimum education:
  3. 10+2 class passed preferably Science (PCB) & English with aggregate of 40% marks.
  4. 10+2 in Arts (Mathematics, Biotechnology, Economics, Political Science, History, Geography, Business Studies, Accountancy, Home Science, Sociology, Psychology, Philosophy) and English Core/English Elective or Health care Science - Vocational stream ONLY, passing out from recognized Board under AISSCE/CBSE/ICSE/SSCE/HSCE or other equivalent Board with 40% marks.
  5. 10+2 vocational ANM under CBSE Board or other equivalent board with 40% marks.
  6. Registered as ANM with State Nursing Registration Council.
  7. Student shall be medically fit.
  8. Students qualified in 10+2 Arts or Science examination or Health care Science - Vocational stream ONLY conducted by National Institute of Open School with 40% marks.
  9. Student shall be admitted once in a year.

ADMISSION PROCEDURE

All eligible candidates are required to appear for the written test.

Candidates who are found eligible on preliminary scrutiny of application and other documents will be called for an Written Admission Test to be held at the Rahman Institute of Nursing and Paramedical Sciences, Radhanagar, Guwahati-23. It has three common sections that are to be attempted by the candidates. These are:

  • a) General Knowledge
  • b) English
  • c) Science

Entrance examination questions will be from the XII standard syllabus and General Knowledge questions will be MCQ type. No Negative Marking. Duration will be 2 hours. There is no provision for re-examination or re-evaluation.

Bachelor of Science in Nursing ( B.Sc. Nursing )

B.Sc. Nursing or Bachelor of Science in Nursing is an undergraduate Nursing course. Nursing is a healthcare profession focused on the care of individuals, families, and communities so they may attain, maintain, or recover optimal health and quality of life from conception to death. During the course it is taught the nurses that how to work in a large variety of specialties where they work independently and as part of a team to assess, plan, implement and evaluate care. Nursing Science is a field of knowledge based on the contributions of nursing scientist through peer reviewed scholarly journals and evidenced-based practice. The duration of the course is four years but it depends on institute to institute as per their rules. The value of the course is an immense and it is job orienting in nature. The course is being provided by many colleges throughout the country.

M.Sc. Nursing or Master of Science in Nursing is a postgraduate Academic Nursing course. The Course deals with healthcare profession focused on the care of individuals, families, and communities so they may attain, maintain, or recover optimal health and quality of life from conception to death. The duration of M.Sc. in Nursing is mostly of two academic years but it varies from institute to institute. The Course is available both in full time and part time basis.
