Admission Procedure

The institute offers an undergraduate programme in B.E under 6 specializations and a postgraduate programme in M.E under 2 specializations. 

Admissions into the B.E programme is on the basis of WBJEE and lateral entry is granted on the basis of JELET examination. For M.E, admission is granted on the basis of GATE Score.

UIT Burdwan also offers scholarships to its students, viz; Scholarship to rank holders, Scholarship to minority students and scholarship by state government to economically poor students.

The placement scenario at UIT Burdwan is decent. TCS, Wipro, IBM, Cognizant, Jaro Education, Open Text, Cloud Kaptan are some of its major recruiters.

Important Dates

B.E Admission 2023

The institute offers the B.E programme at undergraduate level in 6 different specializations. 

For admissions, candidates have to appear for WBJEE which is conducted by the West Bengal Joint Entrance Examinations Board. Furthermore, Lateral admission is also granted to the candidates who meet the criteria and have a valid JELET score

Specialization

Eligibility Criteria 

Intermediate (10+2) in Math, Physics and Chemistry with not less than 45% Aggregate (40% in case of SC/ST students) and at least 30% of marks in English from recognized board.

Selection Criteria

Admissions into the B.E programme is granted on the basis of counseling of candidates based on their ranks in WBJEE. Furthermore, lateral entry is offered on the basis of JELET score.

Key points:

• There are no seats for management quota.
• In each programme 3 seats are for Tuition Fee Waiver Candidates.
• Candidates must be 17 years of age or above as on December 31.
• An application fee of INR 500 + bank’s service charges are required to be paid at the time of counselling.
• Candidates are required to carry all the documents in the counselling which is followed by WBJEE.

M.E Admission 2023

The institute offers Master of Engineering under two specializations, namely - Electronics and Instrumentation and Computer Science Engineering. 

Candidates applying for admissions into M.E Courses would be classified in three categories:

• Category A: GATE-qualified B.E/B.Tech candidates.
• Category B: Sponsored Candidates having at least 2 years’ working experience in related field after passing out
• Category C: Non-GATE B.E/B Tech candidates.

Specialization

Eligibility Criteria 

Candidates must have a bachelor’s degree in B.E or B.Tech in the concerned discipline from a recognized university.

Selection Criteria

Admission into the M.E programme is granted primarily on the basis of GATE score. Furthermore, Sponsored candidates and Non-GATE candidates may also be granted admission, if the seats are vacant.

Key points:

• A written test of one-hour duration will be held to prepare a short list of candidates failing under category C.
• In this category, 60% of the seats are reserved for Burdwan University candidates and the rest 40% for the candidates of other universities.
• Aspiring candidates for admissions in the M.E Program are required to apply for GATE.
• GATE qualified candidates will be given preference for admission into M.E Courses.

Application Process 2023

The application process is available in offline mode. Candidates are required to follow the following steps: 

• Download the application form from the official website or collect it from the registration desk of the institute
• Fill the important details, viz; personal, educational, professional details duly and correctly.
• Attach the educational certificates along with the filled in application form.
• Candidates, finally selected for admission, must collect the Admission Brochure along with the Admission Form personally from the Sales Counter of the UIT.
• The filled-in forms must be submitted to the office of the undersigned at the time of admission.
• An amount of INR 300 has to be paid by a Bank Draft drawn in favor of “University Institute of Technology” payable at Burdwan at the time of admission for admission brochure.

University Institute of Technology admission to B.Tech courses is based on the UIT cut off of candidates in WBJEE. University Institute of Technology cut-offs are decided based on the availability of seats and reservation category. The cut-off changes every year based on different factors. The candidates can refer to the University Institute of Technology 2019 cut off to get an idea about the UIT 2020 cut off.

Placements

University Institute of Technology, Burdwan offers decent placement and internship opportunities for their students by interacting with various reputed companies such as TCS, IBM, L&T, Infotech, Infosysetc and allows their students to sit for the campus placement in the best of the MNCs. The last year placement percentage was around 50% and the top recruiters associated with the college are ech Mahindra, Mahindra Satyam, Haldia Petrochemicals, Matix Fertilizer, Wipro Infotech, Pinnacle, Zycus, Indian Army, Indian Navyetc. Few placement statistics are given below:-

Training & Placement Cell

It is becoming increasingly difficult for the institute authority to arrange for vocational training for all the students free of cost. The students are encouraged to arrange vocational training for themselves by their own efforts. They should also be prepared to pay the requisite training fee/ charges demanded by different organizations for training for training to be arranged by the institute authority.

Summer training has been arranged in different Government, Private & Government Undertaking organizations. Some of them are ISI, Kolkata; CMERI, Durgapur; NICS, Kolkata; DVC, Jharkhand; ONGC, Kolkata; SINP, Kolkata; WBPDCL, Bakreswar; NTPC, Farakka; Webel Mediatronics, Kolkata; Tathya.com, Kolkata; DCL, Kolkata; DPL, Durgapur; ASP, Durgapur; BNK-e Solution, Kolkata; VAI Engineering & Automation, Kolkata, Philips Carbon, Durgapur; Airport Authority of India, Kolkata; WBSEDCL, NKID, etc.

The institute authority makes sincere efforts to arrange a number of interviews both on campus and off campus, where the students prove their merits to secure an employment. Institute arranges training and soft skills for the students to increase the employability skills at their own cost. As a result of the sincere efforts of the institute and students, a good percentage of students could be placed through on and off campus drive in the year of 2011 and 2012. Like previous years, companies such as TCS, IBM, L&T, Infotech, Infosys, i-Flex, FCG, CMC, Tech Mahindra, Mahindra Satyam, Haldia Petrochemicals, Matix Fertilizer, Wipro Infotech, Pinnacle, Zycus, Indian Army, Indian Navy etc. Were contacted for on and off campusing.
